Lab Activity

Travel Agent and Customer

Description:

Students work in pairs to role play an interaction between a customer service rep, and a customer, with prompts (list below) provided by instructor.  The rep asks for the details of the customer’s request and travel details, and provide details of prices. The passenger provides information, and can request clarification. This activity can help in practicing restatements and clarification requests, as well as numbers and spelling.  Pairs spend 3-5 minutes per student/role, and switch partners for more practice. Suggested Prompts:

  1. Destination
  2. Flights
  3. Seat choice
  4. Number of travelers
  5. Date and time
  6. Passport
  7. Price and Payment

Follow-Up Activities: As a follow-up, the instructor can develop an .acr recording with similar questions. All students listen to it independently in the lab and respond to it providing their details.

Modifications:

After a few paired interactions, the instructor records pairs and asks them to listen to their work (and perhaps re-record). Instructor distributes roles/scenarios to students to add a complicating factor (dates that are unavailable, budget restrictions, etc).
