Lab Activity

Subtitling

Description:

Instructor sends (via Virtuoso) students a short video to watch. The video should be one to two minutes long (for a 50-minute class period). Students use the subtitle edit software available in the lab to subtitle or captions for the video. Subtitles might include a direct transcription of the video, modified subtitles/captions, or a description of what is occurring.

Follow-Up Activities: Students record their subtitles, and dub them into the video clip.

Modifications:

Students watch a video that has no audio dialogue, and write text descriptions of it. Or, they watch a video with muted dialogue, and create a dialogue to suit the video’s context.
