Oral Recordings
Description:
Paired, interpersonal: Students are sent a scenario or role play prompt (as a .pdf or .doc file, via their screen), and are told how long they will have to complete the role play. They then have a few minutes to prepare their scene with a partner, and are then asked to record. Recording functions may be controlled by the instructor/lab staff, and are collected for evaluation. Time limits are important in this activity, and students should be made aware of how long they will have to practice, and for how long they will need to speak. A countdown clock is displayed on their screen throughout recording.
Individual, presentational: Students are given a question, task, or role to play, via their screen (as a .pdf or .doc file, via their screen), and are told how long they will have to speak. They take a set amount of time to prepare, and then all record together. Recording functions are controlled by the instructor/lab staff, and are collected for evaluation. Time limits are important in this activity, and students should be made aware of how long they will have to practice, and for how long they will need to speak. A countdown clock is displayed on their screen throughout recording.
Interpersonal via automatic-response (.acr): Auto Comparative Recording (.acr) files allow students to respond to pre-recorded prompts, within response times that are determined by the instructor. The instructor creates the activity ahead of time with the assistance of Language Lab Staff: instructor creates an audio recording of questions to which they would like their class to respond, and staff assist to insert the appropriate amount of time between the questions to give the listener time to answer. These activities can also pair with PDF’s for the students to view while participating in the activity.
